Bonjour

Sorry but that is almost the full extent of my French.I am hoping that all my European friends are more educated than me, and can understand English.

My intention is to build the Tornado using a Villiers 3T 325cc two stroke twin engine. This engine is my choice because I have had it in my shed for about 10 years. It is brand new and has never been run yet. My concern is that it may not be powerfull enough for the craft. The rated horsepower is 18hp. I am considering running a multiblade fan directly from the crankshaft.

I would apreciate any advise which anyone can give

Merci bien

"On this hull it would be possible to mount a 100hp engine, but this would require some hours of practice smile"

Hello Pascal,

Could you explain me and write a bit more about mount much more heavy engine  - eg. 50HP???

I am planning to build a Tornado with 50 HP Suzuki engine( 1000ccm).
My engine and reduction drive belt are quite  prepared- engine RPM 5000max - drive belt ratio 1:1,84, so fan RPM +/- 2800 RPM.
Because, the engine weight is about 90-100 kg- I wonder if any changes of construction are needed?? eg length and widith!!!
If  I use Suzuki engine with total weight 100kg + hull weight aprox.80 kg + driver/pilot +/- 90 kg- so , total payload will be about 300kg.

What do I need to know before start building a hull ??? Are any changes in construction details required???
What about the Fan and splitter plate???
I made some calculations using  Multi Wing Optimiser programme and in my opinion the best solution is 7 or 9 blades fan with diameter 800 mm.( apendix- fan data and graph).

Please, send me some info.

Regards , Ian

Hello Ian,

First, use 900mm or 1000 or 1100 mm diameter for blade.

Your engine it's more heavy from a Rotax, so you can add 150mm or 300mm  lenght, with engine and turbine have the same place from the orginal plan.
just add lenght for the back

Do you planning to race or cruise with your craft ?

Tornado pointed (sharp version) it's design for race, excelent maniabilty , very dynamic, but not easy to long cruise.

Do you planning to build in wood ?

Hi Pascal,

Thanks for quick response!!!

I'm planning to add about 300 mm lenghth(F3, V4,V2 , bottom element) and about 200 mm(F1, F6, bottom)widith.

My intention is use this hover for recreation for races purpose rather not.

Generally  all F and V elements from plywood but all H elements from FOREX SMART (http://www.alcankapa.com/alcan/acsites.nsf/pages_acde_en/index.htm!Open&lang=en&p=products_forex_smart_general&m=3&t ype=.htm).

What do you think about 800/9-9/5Z/50 fan???

Regards, Ian

Hello Ian,

Do not use 800mm, it's better if you planning to use 900mm to 1100mm

I agree with your Witdh and length.

But you planing to build a TORNADO (First version) or TORNADO Sharped (second version ) ?

I subject to you, make the second version wink, Tornado Sharp (pointed version) is better.

Thank's you for the FOREX SMART material, i look's good!!

Hope we receveid some news frop your builtding

Regard's

Pascall
